•Its maximum payload is that of 800 passengers per rotation, which is the equivalent of 11 of London’s iconic red double-decker buses.

•The number of capsules on the wheel totals 32 capsules with their numbering being 1 - 33, because there is no number 13 capsule on account of it being deemed as unlucky. Every single capsule weighs 10 tons and can carry close to 15,000 visitors every single day.

•Every capsule has a capacity of holding up to 25 guests, with each being individually themed. They are named Afternoon Team Capsule, Champagne Capsule, Brunch Capsule, Green and Black’s Chocolate Tasting Capsule, Champagne and Canapes Private Capsule, Vinopolis Wine Tasting Capsule etc.

•Its gross tonnage inclusive of its 32 capsules is approximately 2,100 tons.

•The London Eye’s entire circumference is 424 meters i.e. (11.392ft) which if taken vertically would make it one of the tallest structures in the UK.

•The height of London Eye’s wheel is an impressive 135 meters, which makes it close to thrice in height in comparison to the Tower Bridge.

•Its spindle that carries the structure is 23 meters, and its hub that rotates it is about 330 tons.

•In terms of power consumption it consumes 150 kW to turn each rotation.

Visitors to this breathtaking attraction can visit it any day with the exception of Christmas Day and during its yearly maintenance schedule, which is for 10-days (generally done in mid-January). It opens daily at 10.00 in the morning and closes at 8in the night, with the exception of high summer when it may close at 9.30pm.


For those who want to visit there are same-day tickets on site, although it is recommended to book in advance as holidays and weekends are generally sold out.
